The Russian military police detained the commander of the PMC Wagner branch in the Syrian city of Es-Suwayda and three more "high-ranking commanders" at the Khmeimim airbase, where the Russian Aerospace Forces aviation group is based in Syria. This was reported with reference to its own sources, the Saudi TV channel Al-Hadas .
According to him, the Russian military police also visited the Wagner PMC offices in Deir ez-Zor, Hama and Damascus.
Wagner PMC units have been operating in Syria since at least 2015, acting on the side of the government army. In 2017, a video was released of a brutal killing by mercenaries of a Syrian allegedly defecting from the Syrian army.
Earlier, on June 27, Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that the head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had arrived in Belarus after the end of the rebellion and the march on Moscow.
