The reason for the failure of MTS in 12 regions was called “a major accident on the highway.” Earlier, the economist warned about the sanctions strike on the holding

The reason for the failure of the MTS operator in 12 regions of Russia was officially called a “major accident on the highway,” TASS reports with reference to the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of the Saratov Region.

Initially, MTS reported communication problems in the regions of the Volga region without specifying the reason. According to crash detector Brand Analyticscs, users started reporting issues from 16:15 Moscow time on June 28. In particular, users complained about the lack of signal and problems with voice communication. The largest number of complaints was recorded in Tolyatti, Samara and Izhevsk.

The authorities of the Saratov region also explained the massive failure of the MTS by a major accident on the highway. According to them, the failure affected 12 regions of the country. However, the telecom operator initially did not confirm this information, claiming that the reasons for the failure are still being investigated. Against this background, MTS shares on the Moscow Exchange fell by almost 12%, Forbes reported .

Without mobile communications and mobile Internet from MTS, the Kirov and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Mari El also remained for a while, it was said in the Telegram channel of the government of the Kirov region. Communication and mobile Internet were absent on Wednesday evening and among users in Tatarstan, Penza, Samara, Ulyanovsk regions.

At 18:25 MTS announced the restoration of communication in all regions where there were failures and problems with Internet access.

“MTS specialists promptly carried out restoration work. At present, the problem has been resolved and communication services are provided to subscribers in full, ”the RBC company said .

In March, economist and sociologist Vladislav Inozemtsev published an op-ed in The Insider: "The needle is in the egg" about how Western sanctions against MTS would hit Putin's regime. The expert noted that a sanctions strike on the MTS holding could drastically reduce the Kremlin's potential to spy on Russians, as well as in the field of cyber attacks against other states. It will now become more difficult for Russian companies to obtain spy equipment, and "parallel importers" may face jail time in the United States. The market for services related to SORM (System of technical means for ensuring the functions of operational-search activities) has recently been extremely “swollen”, and government contracts in this area now amount to billions, if not tens of billions of rubles. A strike on this area is the first example of a preventive war, Inozemtsev believes. In addition, as a result of sanctions, the roaming system, as well as 4G and LTE communications, may fall.
