Billionaire Igor Makarov renounced Russian citizenship

The founder and head of the Areti energy company, billionaire Igor Makarov, renounced Russian citizenship. This was reported on the website of the American Forbes, drew the attention of RBC.

Makarov retained the citizenship of Cyprus, which he received in exchange for investments in the country.

In 2023, Makarov ranked 57th in the ranking of the richest people in Russia with a fortune of $2.2 billion. In the global Forbes ranking, he is listed in 1368 place. After the invasion of Ukraine began, Makarov came under sanctions from Great Britain and Canada.

Makarov is the sixth entrepreneur to renounce Russian citizenship. So did Timur Turlov, founder of Freedom Finance investment company, Ruben Vardanyan, founder of Troika Dialog investment company, Yuri Milner, investor, Nikolai Storonsky, founder of Revolut fintech startup, and Oleg Tinkov, founder of Tinkoff Bank.
