The situation at the front
The representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrey Kovalev spoke about the continuation of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions . According to him, the Ukrainian troops have achieved partial success and are gaining a foothold on the achieved lines. On the flanks near Bakhmut there is "pressure" on the enemy forces.
The WarGonzo project of "military correspondent" Semyon Pegov reports an attempt by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to attack Priyutnoye from Levadnoe and the northeast and the continuation of the attack on Rabotino south of Orekhovo .
Ukrainian military expert Leonid Dmitriev commented for The Insider on the tactics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the general situation in the Zaporozhye direction :
The “first line of defense” (security zone) is indeed a very difficult area for a breakthrough. It is distinguished by the fact that there is the highest level of high-explosive obstacles, as well as other deterrents.
For a breakthrough in this zone, the BMP M2 Bradley and Leopard 2 were used – because for such actions, equipment was needed that guaranteed the maximum preservation of the lives of the crew and troops. And this is precisely the reason for the slowness of the advancement of the defense forces of Ukraine in the zone of support of the occupiers.
"Second line of defense" (defensive line) – the main one. Despite the fact that it is called the main one, here the concentration of high-explosive obstacles is several times lower and mainly artillery is placed, covering the support strip – the "first line" – with fire. It is on the lines of defense that the main forces and means of the occupying troops should be concentrated.
The third line is the rear. It was created to solve both issues with the provision of the second and first lines, and to accommodate reserve positions needed by the troops when withdrawing from the first and second lines. But these positions are worse than on the first two lines of defense.
In turn, after the activation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the support zone, not only the second line was opened, but also development was launched along the third line – rear facilities (warehouses, headquarters, concentrations, logistics hubs and routes).
"Voyenkor" Alexander Kots fears the loss of Vesely in the Donetsk direction . He writes that Ukrainians are especially active here. For this reason, Russian reserves are being transferred to Vesely .
Z-channels write about the beginning of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Kremennaya in the Luhansk region , which is being conducted by six brigades. The fact that the Ukrainians will go on the attack, the Russian military allegedly knew in advance due to the transfer to the front line SAMP / T air defense systems, which usually indicates the imminent start of offensive operations.
Russian troops are making an inexplicably large-scale effort to counter Ukrainian military personnel in the Antonovskiy Bridge area. The Z-channel "Two Majors" writes about the failure of another attempt to clear the area, undertaken by the forces of motorized rifle units. On the part of the Russians there are dead and wounded, equipment is lost.
In addition, it is reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are remotely mining the area. The authors of the channel note that the Ukrainians are trying to lure the enemy into the open area, in which they are assisted by the Russian "fathers-commanders". And this is despite the fact that the small foothold they hold does not pose any threat to the RF Armed Forces.
On the span of the Antonovsky bridge , under which the Armed Forces were hiding, they hit with an Iskander OTRK missile, after unsuccessful attempts to destroy it with aerial bombs (if you look at the rather confused testimony of the “military correspondent” Vladimir Romanov , it turns out that the Aerospace Forces missed by almost 4 kilometers, hitting not along the Antonovsky bridge, and in the area of the bridge over the Konka River near Oleshki ). However, the Ukrainian military still continues to be under the surviving span and bring up reserves, despite the constant statements of Z-bloggers that they are about to be knocked out of there.
Judging by the reports of other Russian Telegram channels, the Iskander strike did not help much – the Armed Forces of Ukraine simply dispersed to nearby dachas and continue to correct the fire of Ukrainian artillery from the right bank of the Dnieper . Moreover, it took two weeks to wait for this blow. The Russians are also experiencing problems with the supply and evacuation of the wounded, for which they blame their command, which cannot establish a counter-battery fight. However, "military commander" Alexander Kharchenko claims that the high command is aware of the problem and "the enemy will definitely be thrown into the river."
President Zelensky discussed the situation in Belarus and instructed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Naev to strengthen the northern direction in connection with the likely arrival of Wagner PMC fighters in the country.
In connection with the creation of a storage base for Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus , Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on NATO to deploy nuclear weapons in Poland as part of the Nuclear Sharing program. Currently, American nuclear bombs are stored at air bases in Belgium , Italy , the Netherlands and Turkey , and the pilots of the air forces of these countries can, if necessary, use them with US authorization. The Nuclear Sharing program (which has been operating for many decades) allegedly became the reason for the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus according to a similar scheme.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Valery Zaluzhny said that he was "pissed off" by talk of a slower-than-expected development of the counteroffensive. According to him, the Ukrainian military advance every day, although “every day and every meter” is given at the cost of considerable blood. He also spoke about the supply of F-16 fighters, noting that Ukraine does not need 120 such aircraft to threaten the whole world, but a certain number of them are needed, since the Russian aviation is now superior to the Ukrainian aviation not only numerically, but also technologically.
Mutual shelling and sabotage
According to the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of June 30, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 10 out of 13 drones of the Shahed family (aka Geran), launched from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov at military and infrastructure facilities in the Zaporozhye region . In addition to drones, they tried to hit them with the help of four S-300 air defense missiles.
The Russians attacked the village of Sergeevka in the Donetsk region with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). It is reported about getting into the building of a local school. There were 12 people in it – representatives of the administration, teachers and technical staff. A primary school teacher and chief accountant died, six people were injured and hospitalized.
Russian Z-channels publish a video of a Shahed family drone hitting Veliky Burluk in the Kharkiv region . It is alleged that "foreign mercenaries" were housed in the affected building of the notary's office, of which 50 people were allegedly killed and 20 wounded. The Ukrainian side reported only one dead fireman and wrote about hitting a civilian object.
Yasinovataya in the occupied part of the Donetsk region was hit with ten MLRS rockets. Russian "military correspondents" report wounding 9 people.
On the morning of June 30, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the suburbs of Berdyansk using Storm Shadow missiles. It is reported about the defeat of the headquarters and fuel depot. Russian sources wrote about the successful work of air defense and the shooting down of all missiles. Z-channels have been posting photos and videos of debris from what is claimed to be a successfully intercepted Storm Shadow missile. If this is true, then this is the first example of the successful destruction of a missile of this type by Russian air defense systems. However, Ukraine Weapons Tracker experts believe that the missile worked normally in the strike mode against the enemy's deepened fortifications. According to this scheme, first the "advanced" charge breaks through the layers of earth and concrete, and then the main warhead penetrates through the hole formed and explodes inside the fortification. At the same time, fragments of the rocket part remain on the surface. True, the authors note that it is not clear from the available frames whether the rocket eventually hit the target.
The Helicopterpilot Telegram channel associated with the army aviation hints that some of the missiles did reach their targets in Berdyansk . Although the author does not say directly what happened, he notes that the air defense crews "did everything they could" and "could have been worse." He notes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine seek to destroy the locations of personnel, and only a layered air defense system can reduce the missile threat, which he calls for, pointing out that otherwise “the end result could be worse than Chernobaevka.” It is worth recalling that on June 13, it was reported that 27 military helicopters, including five Ka-52 Alligators, were relocated to the airfield in Berdyansk .
Losses
Photos of the German tank Leopard 2A4 lost by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporozhye region are published . He was blown up by a mine, after which he was hit by an RPG, as well as with the help of the Lancet loitering ammunition. Russian Telegram channels note that even this was not enough to destroy it completely.
The Security Service of Ukraine publishes a video showing how employees of the agency destroyed two Russian tanks and damaged another with the help of kamikaze drones. Apparently, as in the case of the destruction of Ukrainian tanks by Russian Lancet drones, “arrivals” are effective in relatively worse protected areas of the vehicle body, for example, the engine compartment.
Armaments and military equipment
Denmark has approved a package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 1.3 billion crowns (175 million euros). The Ministry of Defense of the country reports that it also includes anti-missiles for air defense systems and funds for the purchase of artillery ammunition.
As far as the RF Armed Forces are concerned, apparently, the problem of providing at least relatively modern equipment and weapons has not only not been resolved, but is becoming more and more aggravated.
The Russians were armed with shells made in 1939. A video is published about a 1944 machine gun, which is used by one of the fighters, who proudly tells that grandfathers “went to die” with such. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine seize Mosin rifles as trophies, T-54/55 tanks are brought to the front, and they are really used as combat vehicles (and seemingly more “modern” T-62s are used as carriers of improvised explosive devices).
Another original modification of the MT-LB was spotted, on which the UB-32 unguided missiles and the Vasilek automatic mortar were installed simultaneously. “Voyenkor” Alexander Kots is proud of the “Kulibins”, who independently solve the problem of the lack of mobile mortars in the troops.
At the same time, Uralvagonzavod completely switched to the production of tanks and other military equipment. At the same time, the artillery factories belonging to UVZ were transferred to the management of the Tekhmash concern.
Rostec Corporation reported on the delivery of the first batch of new 2S19M1 Msta-S self-propelled artillery mounts. They are equipped with an automated guidance and fire system.
A new Russian armored car appeared at the front. This is KamAZ-43269 "Shot", equipped with a BM-30-D "Spitsa" uninhabited combat module, equipped with a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a PKTM machine gun and an AG-30 grenade launcher.
About the main events of the war on June 29 – in the previous report: “The Armed Forces of Ukraine surround Bakhmut, camps for Wagnerists are being built in Belarus, prisoners recruited by the Ministry of Defense refuse to fight. What's going on at the front .
