Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Kiev, RBC-Ukraine reports . After the meeting, both leaders made a number of statements.

Zelensky invited Spain to join security guarantees from NATO and support the Ukrainian peace formula. At the same time, the President of Ukraine criticized Western partners for delaying the start of training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. According to him, there is still no schedule for training missions.

In addition, Zelensky spoke about the need to accept Ukraine into NATO in order to “put Vladimir Putin in his place”, noted that negotiations with the Russian Federation would be possible only after its troops reached the 1991 borders. He also spoke about the possibility of the Russian military undermining the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant – in his opinion, in this way they can try to stop the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In turn, Pedro Sanchez called his visit a "sign of support" and recalled that he made it on the first day of Spain's EU presidency. He wished success to Ukraine in the counter-offensive and expressed the hope that it would result in a just and strong peace.

According to a joint declaration published on the website of the Office of the President, Spain supports Ukraine's accession to the EU, as well as the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Council, within which cooperation between the country and the alliance will be strengthened and expanded. In addition, the document noted Spain's support for the open door policy of the North Atlantic Alliance.
