The FSB reported that it prevented an assassination attempt on the Russian-appointed "head" of the annexed Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, and detained the suspect. The statement of the special service is quoted by Interfax.

The detainee is a citizen of Russia, born in 1988, his name has not been released. It is alleged that he passed on the territory of Ukraine "a training course in reconnaissance and subversive activities, including mine-explosive training."

“In June 2023, an agent of a foreign intelligence service arrived on the territory of the Republic of Crimea and began preparing to carry out a terrorist attack, which he planned to carry out by blowing up the car of the head of the republic. However, the bomber did not have time to bring the criminal intent to the end, since he was detained when the explosive device was removed from the cache, ”the FSB said in a statement.

Cases were opened against the detainee under articles on attempted terrorist attack and illegal acquisition of explosives.
