Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina dies in hospital after shelling of Kramatorsk

Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina died in hospital from injuries received during a rocket attack on a pizzeria in the center of Kramatorsk. This was reported in the Ukrainian PEN.

At the time of the missile attack, Amelina was in a pizzeria with colleagues and journalists from Colombia.

Victoria Amelina is a famous writer whose texts have been translated into Polish, Czech, German, Dutch and English. In 2021, she won the Joseph Conrad-Kozhenevsky Literary Prize.

Since the summer of 2022, Amelina has been documenting Russian war crimes with Truth Hounds. She worked, among other things, in Izyum, where she discovered the diary of Vladimir Vakulenko, a children's writer kidnapped by the Russian military and murdered.

Amelina also worked on a book in English, War and Justice Diary: Looking at Women Looking at War, about Ukrainian women and their lives during the war.

A pizzeria in Kramatorsk was shelled on the evening of June 27. Earlier it was reported about 12 dead. Among them is a 17-year-old girl and two 14-year-old sisters. More than 60 people were injured.
