Kinopoisk was fined 1 million rubles for films with LGBT themes. The list includes “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Perfect Strangers”

The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow fined the Kinopoisk online cinema for 1 million rubles for showing films with a demonstration of LGBT topics, the state Russian media use the wording “non-traditional sexual relations”. This was reported by a TASS correspondent from the courtroom.

The court found that Kinopoisk did not place the 18+ label on the films Bridget Jones's Diary, Greed, The English Barber, and Perfect Strangers.

This is not the first administrative protocol against Russian online cinemas; Start, Premier, and Megafon-TV have already been fined under this article. In total, Roskomnadzor has drawn up 33 protocols for online cinemas and TV channels since the adoption in the Russian Federation of a law banning “LGBT propaganda,” said State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.

On December 5, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning "LGBT propaganda". There are no precise definitions in this law, and in fact it applies to a person with any orientation. For example, it can attract people who openly talk about their unwillingness to have children – “childfree”. For more details, see the article “ Judges and policemen will decide on the spot”. Under the law on “gay propaganda”, even childfree people can be fined .

On June 14, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill banning "sex change" (this is the wording used by the authorities to describe certain stages of the transgender transition) through a surgical operation and changes in the passport. The State Duma has already made a statement that “sex change is a myth”, an exception is provided only for children with congenital anomalies. Experts working with LGBTQ+ people explained to The Insider that the State Duma is using the incorrect and transphobic term “sex change”, and also wants to adopt the toughest version of the bill, which will ban absolutely everything for transgender people: from changing documents to surgical procedures. This will eventually lead to the emergence of an underground surgical market and an increase in cases of gender dysphoria (stress and feelings of dissatisfaction with the assigned gender role).
