StratCom of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs that Russia may be preparing a provocation on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP, which has been occupied by the Russian Federation since March 4, 2022.
It is reported that, according to operational information, foreign objects similar to explosive devices were placed on the roof of the third and fourth power units of the nuclear power plant on July 4. They cannot damage power units, but blowing them up can create the impression that Ukraine is shelling nuclear power plants.
It is emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not violate the norms of international humanitarian law, and also monitor and control the situation.
Earlier, messages began to appear on Russian Telegram channels that Ukraine was allegedly going to organize an “attack on the ZNPP”. As an argument, the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11 is cited, at which it is necessary to “present the result” of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Pridnestrovets channel published a statement according to which Ukraine would drop nuclear waste ammunition from the South Ukrainian NPP onto the territory of the nuclear power plant. On the evening of July 4, Renat Karchaa, adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern, announced this officially. According to him, the attack is supposed to take place on the night of July 5.
On June 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about receiving information from Ukrainian intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) that Russia had prepared everything for a possible terrorist attack at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) with a release of radiation.
Nuclear physicist Andrei Ozharovsky spoke to The Insider about what a Russian terrorist attack at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant could be like and what it would lead to.
