The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that houses destroyed by shelling would be restored in Shebekino – in the same place where new shelling is still possible. According to him, this is necessary, otherwise "enemies will achieve their goals," he said on the air of "Russia 24".
“If we do not restore the affected areas, then our enemies will achieve the goal they are pursuing. They will force us out of our territory so that we abandon our native land, houses and create a gray zone. We cannot and will not allow this!” the governor said.
At the same time, he assured that the evacuated residents of Shebekin would not be sent to new houses under shelling yet. Gladkov also explained that there was a delay in the restoration of buildings in Shebekino, as many officials and experts "refused" to enter the city for fear of shelling. As of July 5, 729 houses are in the queue for restoration in Shebekino.
