Meta launches Twitter competitor – Threads social network for short messages

The American company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has launched a new social network – Threads. As reported on the company's website, you can write messages up to 500 characters in it, publish links, photos and videos up to five minutes long.

Threads is positioned as a text application for Instagram, you can enter the new social network using your Instagram account. The interface and functionality of the new social network resembles Twitter.

The Threads app is now available for download on the App Store and Google Play in over 100 countries, including the US, UK, and Japan. It will not work in the European Union yet. As the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri told The Verge, this is due to "difficulties in complying with some of the laws that come into force [in the EU] next year."

Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg said on his Threads account that five million accounts were registered on the new social network in the first four hours of the new social network.
