Vladimir Putin signed a decree on verification of citizens of the Russian Federation who refused Ukrainian passports

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will check Russian citizens who have refused Ukrainian passports. This is stated in the decree of President Vladimir Putin.

According to a presidential decree published in March 2023, people with dual, Ukrainian and Russian, citizenship have the right to refuse a Ukrainian passport by simply writing an application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. However, to date, no checks have been made to determine whether those who did this have really ceased to enjoy the rights and fulfill the duties of a citizen of Ukraine.

Now, on the basis of confirmation of the fact of violation or information from government agencies, such people will be checked, which will last for two months. It will be obliged to carry out the subdivision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which accepted from such a citizen of the Russian Federation an application for renunciation of citizenship of Ukraine. During it, a person will be considered a citizen of Ukraine.

If the violation due to which the check was carried out is confirmed, then a second application for renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship can be submitted only after 10 years. The conclusion on its results will be transferred to the FSB.

On April 28, Vladimir Putin signed a new version of the law "On Citizenship". In accordance with it, a person may be deprived of acquired citizenship for bringing to criminal liability under articles for "fake" against the Russian army or its "discredit".
