The organizers of the festival, which was supposed to end the week of Pride in Tbilisi, canceled it at the last moment due to security concerns.

The organizers of the Tbilisi Pride festival, which was supposed to take place in the capital of Georgia on July 8 and end the pride week, announced the cancellation of the event. According to the Tbilisi Pride Facebook page, the police failed to secure the area where the festival was supposed to take place. People who have already arrived at the scene are being evacuated.

The festival was to be held on private property, at the Lisi Wonderland entertainment complex. According to Georgian media, supporters of the nationalist Alt-Info party went to the venue with the intention of interfering with the event.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia promised to ensure the safety of the pride, and some banks blocked accounts for raising funds for organizing anti-LGBT actions. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke in support of the pride participants.

At the same time, the Georgian Patriarchate accused LGBT people of “propaganda” of a perverted way of life, which is “fundamentally contrary to Georgian culture.”
