Latvian citizens living both in the country and abroad received fines from the State Police after posting congratulations on Victory Day on social networks. According to Delfi, the leader of the Russian Union of Latvia, Miroslav Mitrofanov, announced this. and after this information was confirmed by police spokeswoman Simona Gravite.
How many Latvians have already received such notices – the police did not specify. “We will refrain from commenting on the numbers and any other related information,” Gravite said.
The police refer to the 13th and 131st articles of the Law on administrative penalties for offenses in the field of administration, public order and the use of the state language. The articles provide for a fine of up to 350 euros for the use of prohibited Soviet symbols in public places.
