A new report was drawn up against the Yekaterinburg Memorial Society for “discrediting” the Russian army (20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). This was announced by the representative of the organization Alexei Mosin to the regional edition It's My City.
The reason for the case was a publication on the Ural Memorial website on May 14, 2023, dedicated to the topic of refusing military service. Law enforcers identify the Memorial society with the Ural Memorial, although these are two completely different organizations, Mosin once again clarified.
Mosin also repeatedly claimed that he did not have access to the Ural Memorial website, the site was registered to another person – Anatoly Svechnikov, but the judge ignored these arguments.
Mosin has already been fined 100,000 rubles under an article about “discrediting” the army for a photo in which he is depicted with a “No to war” poster. At that time, Mosin told the court that the photo was taken at a rally approved by the authorities on February 12, 2022, almost two weeks before the start of a full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.
Earlier in June, the Yekaterinburg branch of Memorial was fined 300,000 rubles for a publication posted on the website of the same Ural Memorial. Law enforcement officers considered the image with birds on a black background to be “discredited”, as well as texts about the results of military operations of the Russian army in Ukraine over the year. The defense is going to appeal against the decision of the court, hearings on this case will be held on July 19 in the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.
