Czech President Petr Pavel, answering a question from a Popular Politics correspondent why the family of Russian missile manufacturer Boris Obnosov, who owns real estate in Prague, is still not under sanctions, said that the Czech Republic has no legal grounds to deprive them of their property or expel them from the country.
“I understand that this is an emotional issue, but when I went to solve the problem … There is a legal problem here. So far, there is no legislation that would allow the Czech Republic to confiscate [his family's property] or expel him <probably referring to members of Obnosov's family – The Insider> out of the country. I'm looking for ways to solve this problem."
At the same time, the head of the legal department of FBK, Vyacheslav Gimadi, in a conversation with Sirena, said that the Czech Republic has legal grounds to impose sanctions against the Obnosov family. He referred to the Czech “Act of December 1, 2022 on restrictive measures against certain essential acts applicable in international relations”. This document is based on the EU law on sanctions against those who encroach on the sovereignty of Ukraine. By law, the Czech Republic has sufficient legal grounds to impose sanctions on Obnosov, Gimadi points out.
According to the lawyer, the law allows for the imposition of sanctions against all individuals responsible for the attack on Ukraine or supporting this attack materially or financially. And also against all individuals who receive certain benefits from the Russian government.
Earlier, FBK, in its investigation, said that the family of the head of the Tactical Missiles Corporation, Boris Obnosov, owns a 140-meter penthouse near the center of Prague. Real estate worth 95 million rubles belongs to Rostislav Zorikov, the husband of Obnosov's daughter Olga Zorikova.
