Baza: Ex-head of the Rostov court tried to commit suicide amid corruption scandal

The former chairman of the Rostov Regional Court, Elena Zolotareva, tried to commit suicide and is now in intensive care at the toxicology department in critical condition, Baza reports . Information about the hospitalization of Zolotareva is also confirmed by the Telegram channels " 112 " and Mash .

On May 26, the High Qualifications Board of Judges allowed the Investigative Committee to open a criminal case on bribery against Zolotareva. According to investigators, Zolotareva was involved in seven episodes of corruption.

During a search of the former judge's house, 128 million rubles and 27,000 euros were confiscated. Zolotareva served as chairman since 2015 and resigned amid searches of 30 judges from the Rostov region.

The Presidium of the Council of Judges believes that Zolotareva put pressure on lower judges to make certain decisions.

Mash writes that Zolotareva recently asked the Supreme Court to cancel the permission for a criminal case against her.

The Rostov Regional Court came under close scrutiny by Moscow investigators and FSB operatives this spring. Three dozen judges turned out to be under suspicion – they are charged with issuing the necessary sentences for money. It was in this court that local activists received long terms, and regional officials got off with suspended sentences.
