The citizen of Latvia, who was fined 15,000 euros by the Prosecutor General's Office for "illegal intellectual and physical support of Russia," turned out to be the former editor-in-chief of Sputnik Lithuania, Marat Kasem. This was reported by Latvian television.
According to investigators, Kasem acted "for personal reasons and selfish motives." The defendant himself pleaded guilty and expressed regret.
Earlier media reported that Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics requested information from the prosecutor's office on this case and plans to discuss it with the prosecutor general, as the news about the fine raised questions in him.
"Any decision must be legal, fair, justified and understandable," the President of Latvia said.
