Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that now is not the time for war as the world's food, fertilizer and fuel problems need to be addressed. He is quoted by Reuters.
Putin met with Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand. According to the agency, the prime minister expressed his opinion to Putin on the sidelines:
“The present era is not the era of wars, and I spoke to you about this on the phone,” Modi said, adding that democracy, diplomacy and dialogue keep the peace.
During the official meeting, Putin said he understood Modi's concerns about the war in Ukraine. According to him, Russia will do everything to end the conflict as soon as possible. At the same time, Putin once again accused Kyiv of refusing to negotiate.
The summit was also attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with whom Putin promised to consult on the possible introduction of restrictions on the export of grain from Ukraine. According to The Insider correspondent, Erdogan said that Ankara is in intensive negotiations with the UN on the export of grain. According to him, grain from Ukraine "should reach brothers and sisters in Africa." Erdogan's rhetoric coincides with Putin's opinion, which he expressed even before the summit. The President of Russia stated that the grain was exported under the pretext of helping developing countries: “As people say, they just threw it, cheated, not only us, but also the poorest countries.”
On September 14, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, following a telephone conversation with Putin, said that the Russian president, unfortunately, still does not consider the war in Ukraine a mistake. Scholz also said that Russia should withdraw its troops from Ukraine, recognize the sovereignty of the country and its territorial integrity.
Earlier, retired SBU Major General Viktor Yagun told The Insider that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron warned him during calls to Vladimir Putin. In a conversation, the leaders said that if Russia "continues in the same spirit and the countries also have to support Ukraine, then there will be parity and missiles will fly to the territory of the Russian Federation." According to Yagun, in this case, Ukraine will be provided with the necessary weapons.
