On Monday morning, Kyiv was subjected to a massive attack by kamikaze drones. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko , said on his Telegram channel that as a result of the attack, a fire broke out in a non-residential building in the Shevchenko district of Kyiv.
According to the mayor, several residential buildings were damaged in the Ukrainian capital, information about the victims is being specified.
“Two more explosions in Shevchenko district. Stay in cover!" — wrote Klitschko at 8:24.
He published a photo of the wreckage of one of the kamikaze drones. Video and photos of eyewitnesses appeared on social networks.
This is not the first time Russia has used drones to strike Ukrainian cities. In September, Geran-2 drones attacked Odessa several times. So, on September 23, the Ukrainian media wrote that two drones destroyed an administrative building in the port area, one drone was shot down over the sea.
The Russian Federation produces its own kamikaze drones "Cube", but during the war in Ukraine decided to purchase a batch of Iranian drones. Both sides deny any deal. According to The Washington Post, Tehran has supplied Moscow with Mohajer-6 and Shahed series drones capable of carrying ammunition to attack radars, artillery and other military targets. According to Ukrainian media, the Shahed-136 Iranian loitering ammunition was disguised as a Geran-2 drone . Pro-Russian Telegram channels confirm that kamikaze drones purchased in Iran or assembled under an Iranian license could go into battle.
On the morning of October 10, Russia launched a massive shelling of Ukraine. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar, citing the General Staff, said that 83 missiles were fired at cities, 43 of them shot down air defense systems. As a result of the shelling, 11 people were killed and 87 were injured.
