French President Emmanuel Macron asked Pope Francis to call Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill to help end the war in Ukraine. It is reported by Le Point.
According to the publication, Macron spoke with the Pope for about an hour. As part of this meeting, Macron also asked the pontiff to call US President Joe Biden.
Macron is the only European leader who has been in regular contact with Putin since the start of the war. In June, Macron said in an interview that he had already "lost count of the number of conversations" he had with the Russian president after the outbreak of the war. “I am convinced that the role of France is to be an intermediary power,” he said.
It is known that the President of France told Putin that by launching an invasion of Ukraine, he "made a historical and fundamental mistake for his people, for himself and for history."
