Poland has begun construction of a temporary barbed wire fence on the border with the Kaliningrad region, said Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, his words are quoted by the Polish Press Agency. Information about the construction of the barrier was also published on Twitter by the country's Ministry of Defense.
The department claims that the construction of the fence will be completed quickly, as the sappers have experience that they gained a year ago when building a fence on the border with Belarus. Then the barriers "saved the country from the flow of migrants," the Defense Ministry stressed.
“Already today, the work of sappers, soldiers of the Polish Army begins on the construction of a temporary barrier on the Polish-Russian border. The fence will consist of three rows of barbed wire, which is used by the army around the world,” Blashak said.
According to him, the measures were taken due to the fact that the Kaliningrad airport became open for flights from the Middle East and Africa.
In the autumn of 2021, the migration crisis worsened on the border between Poland and Belarus. The Belarusian authorities sent visitors from the Middle East to the border with Poland, where several thousand migrants then concentrated. There they are trying to break through the barriers at the border and illegally cross into the territory of the European Union. The EU authorities call this migration crisis a "hybrid aggression" on the part of the regime of Alexander Lukashenko. Stanislav Zharyn, Minister Coordinator of the Polish Intelligence Services, said that there had been a "largest attempt to force an invasion of Poland."
