The United States, Great Britain and Australia have begun a two-week joint exercise at the American military base Fort Irvine in the Mojave Desert (California), during the exercises, a Russian invasion of Europe is simulated. It is reported by The Times.
In the first half of the project, a conflict was supposed to break out in the Pacific Ocean. The second stage simulated a land war in Europe. The text notes that both events are taking place against the backdrop of rising tensions with China and Russia.
The British Army sent about 450 soldiers to the exercise, including an elite infantry regiment and a platoon of drone operators. In total, 4.5 thousand military personnel will be involved in the exercises, they will work out new tactics taken from the experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The text notes that the open desert landscape is similar to the flat terrain of the Ukrainian steppes. The source of the publication, who takes part in the exercises, said that the war in Ukraine showed certain changes in the conduct of hostilities, including the active use of drones.
As part of the exercise, drones identified targets, and GMLRS missiles fired at enemy positions spotted by American F-35 fighters. In addition, the military will work out the production of spare parts in the field using 3D printers, as well as technologies for processing intelligence collected by drones to make command decisions.
In 2023, similar exercises are planned to be held in Europe.
