The Ministry of Culture has revoked the rental certificate from the film "Hunger", which began showing in September 2022. This was announced by a literary critic and one of the authors of the project, Alexander Arkhangelsky.
“This does not mean a ban on showing in principle – the law allows demonstrations without a certificate “exclusively for cultural and educational purposes within the framework of the statutory activities of museums, exhibition halls or educational organizations implementing basic and additional educational programs.” Plus, paid downloads are allowed in online stores. But this means that on the big screen, for which the film was made, it can no longer be shown in Russia, ”he explained.
According to Arkhangelsky, in the message, the Ministry of Culture points to subparagraph D of paragraph 20 of the rules for issuing rental certificates: “information was found, the distribution of which is prohibited by the legislation of the Russian Federation.”
“What kind of legislation is it forbidden to talk about the fact that there was a famine in 1921-23? That more than 5 million people died? That the world (far from all, by the way) stepped over the ideology and showed solidarity with the suffering inhabitants of Russia? And thanks to this, more than 10 million were saved? This is a betrayal of one’s own history, a betrayal of family memory,” Arkhangelsky wrote.
The documentary film "Hunger" is a project by Alexander Arkhangelsky, Maxim Kournikov and Tatyana Sorokina. He talks about the famine of the 1920s.
