Kazan resident Ruslan Ilyasov was sentenced to 19 years in prison in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. About this writes "OVD-Info" with reference to his relative.
The verdict was handed down on December 9th. Ilyasov was found guilty of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and inciting another person to terrorist activities (part 1.1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code). According to a court decision, he will have to spend the first five years of his term in prison, and the rest of the time in a strict regime colony.
According to investigators, Ilyasov was one of the leaders of Hizb ut-Tahrir. He was allegedly engaged in attracting new people and organizing religious meetings. He was detained in July 2021 and sent to a pre-trial detention center. His home was searched, during which no prohibited items or evidence of a terrorist attack were found.
Ilyasov has four children. Last year, he said that in the pre-trial detention center he was not given the Koran and was not allowed to send letters.
In 2003, the activities of the international Islamic political organization Hizb ut-Tahrir were banned in Russia as terrorist. After the annexation of Crimea in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case, dozens of Crimeans began to be persecuted. In Ukraine, the activities of the organization were legal.
