The European Union is preparing to introduce a new, already tenth, package of sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. She is quoted by CNN.
According to her, the tenth package will be mainly aimed at "closing the loopholes" through which Russia circumvents already established restrictive measures. There are huge consequences for those who circumvent EU sanctions, von der Leyen said.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, said that the European Union had imposed the strongest sanctions against Russia in history. According to her, as a result of the restrictions, the Russian economy will face decades of regression, and the Russian industry will be deprived of any modern critical technologies. She promised to continue supporting Ukraine.
Earlier, the EU imposed sanctions against 29 people involved in the investigation by The Insider and Bellingcat about employees of a secret unit as part of the Main Computing Center (MCC) of the Russian Armed Forces. It is they who are engaged in the guidance of high-precision Russian missiles that hit Ukrainian cities. These missiles often hit civilian targets, destroy homes and cause civilian deaths in Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war, the EU has regularly imposed sanctions against Russia. Earlier, the EC proposed to include in the package personal sanctions against almost 200 Russian officials and the military. It was assumed that they would be denied entry to the EU, and their European assets would be frozen.
