The former head of the press service of the Moscow police, Yuri Titov, who left his post amid the case of journalist Ivan Golunov, returned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a promotion. This is stated on the page of the department "VKontakte".
In the publication on Titov's appointment, it is reported that he will deal with issues of "interaction with civil society institutions, work in the Internet space and coordinate the activities of subordinate units of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia." The police officer will take a position in the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Titov resigned from the Interior Ministry in the fall of 2019, after Meduza journalist Golunov was detained in central Moscow in the summer of that year. He was planted with drugs and accused of trying to sell. Titov was responsible for covering the detention. Under his leadership, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow published a photo of the drug lab, allegedly taken at Golunov's house. Because of his work, Titov was disciplined. According to RBC, they also decided to fire him because of the Golunov case. The policeman himself claimed that he was "just moving to another job." The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also stated that in 2019 Titov was allegedly invited to work in the structure of the Moscow government and he accepted this offer. The department denied the connection between the dismissal and the Golunov case.
