The Moscow Basmanny Court has arrested in absentia Denis Kapustin (Nikitin), who is said to be the commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, the organization that claimed responsibility for the March 2 attack on the Bryansk region. Kommersant found out about this.
According to the publication, Kapustin is the only suspect in the case of the attack on the Bryansk region. The case was initiated at the beginning of March under articles on the terrorist attack, illegal trafficking in weapons and explosives, it is being handled by the department for the investigation of war crimes, genocide and the rehabilitation of Nazism of the Main Investigative Committee of the ICR. Kapustin, 39, a native of Moscow, has been put on the federal and international wanted list.
On March 2, a group of armed men crossed the Russian border from Ukraine and attacked the villages of Lubechane and Sushany. The militants fired on a civilian car. As a result, a local resident, 63-year-old Leonid Golovanov, was killed, two more people, including a 10-year-old boy, were injured. Two Russian border guards were also wounded in the shootout.
The "Russian Volunteer Corps", formed in August 2022, is part of the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine. The corps serves mainly Russian emigrants, many of whom, including Kapustin, came from a neo-Nazi background.
On March 6, the FSB announced the prevention of an assassination attempt on the entrepreneur and founder of the Tsargrad TV channel Konstantin Malofeev. The secret service accused Denis Kapustin of preparing the assassination attempt.
