The State Duma amended the Criminal Code to toughen responsibility for terrorism (Article 205 “Terrorist attack”), after the death of military commissar-propagandist Vladlen Tatarsky. Also now for "treason" will be provided for life imprisonment. This was written by the head of the security committee Vasily Piskarev in Telegram. According to him, the amendments were supported by all factions represented in the Committee.
The amendments have been prepared for the draft law already adopted in the first reading, which will allow the State Duma to consider them promptly. They will help protect against "unprecedented threats" that Russia allegedly faced "from Ukraine and its Western sponsors," Piskarev said.
It is also proposed to increase the maximum term under the article “Terrorist act” for committing intimidating acts that created a threat of death to people and aimed at destabilizing the situation, up to twenty years in prison (now the term is 15 years). In addition, if the amendments are adopted, the threshold of punishment for recruitment or involvement in the commission of terrorist crimes may increase to seven years (now – from 5 to 15 years). Piskarev proposes to raise the minimum sentence for aiding terrorism from 10 to 12 years (the maximum term under this article is up to 20 years). He posted other upcoming changes:
“Under Article 205.4 (“Organization of a terrorist community and participation in it”), members of terrorist communities will face from 10 to 15 years in prison (valid from 5 to 10 years);
Under Article 281 (“Sabotage”), it is proposed to toughen the punishment for actions aimed at damaging transport infrastructure and life support facilities of the population, as well as harming people's health in order to undermine the economic security and defense capability of the country up to twenty years in prison (now 15 years);
According to Article 361 (“Act of International Terrorism”), the punishment can increase from 12 years to life (now – from 10 years).”
On April 4, the FSB detained a married couple in Nizhny Tagil for “espionage in the interests of Ukraine” at a military-industrial complex enterprise. Spouses from Nizhny Tagil, working at Uralvagonzavod, were suspected of "treason", they allegedly handed over secret information (drawings) to the special services of Ukraine for 100 thousand rubles. As Kholod found out, these are Danil and Victoria Mukhametovs, they were identified by a local resident, as well as an acquaintance of the detained Russians.
Earlier in March, a resident of Khabarovsk was accused of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a case of "treason" was initiated. Before that, the FSB detained on suspicion of “treason” a resident of Moscow, who allegedly transferred money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The human rights project "First Department" noted that this is the first known case when a case for providing financial assistance to Ukraine is initiated under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (treason).
