Alexander Korochkin, sentenced to 20 years for a series of murders and rapes in Chelyabinsk, may not be involved in the crimes. This became clear when a little more than a year was left before the end of his sentence, Telegram channel 112 reports .
The serial attacks in question were committed in 2004 according to one scheme: a maniac killed car drivers and raped their companions. Then the media called the criminal a "forest maniac." A few months later, investigators reported that the “murderer” had been detained; he was allegedly a 32-year-old employee of the security service of the SUSU University Alexei Korochkin. The main reason for the detention was that he worked night shifts in the area where the crimes were committed. One of the former operatives of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate for the Chelyabinsk Region described the procedure for identifying Korochkin by the victims as follows:
“When Korochkin was detained, they walked around the entire SUSU dormitory with his photo, and also showed this photo to the injured girls. By the way, they did not talk about rape then, they announced it later. The verdict states that before the identification, neither one nor the second was shown a photo, but this is not so. The photograph was shown to them and they were told: “This is him, he is a maniac, we caught him.” This ended the investigation. The girls at the identification, of course, “recognized” Korochkin. And at first they said that the perpetrator was wearing a mask, and then they changed their testimony and began to claim that he was without a mask, he just told them to say so, threatening to kill him.”

At the trial, Korochkin pleaded not guilty. Despite the fact that the murder weapon was not found, and the investigation did not present clear evidence, the court sentenced Korochkin to 20 years in a strict regime colony. The lawyer wrote complaints about violations during the investigation, but they were ignored.
At the same time, while Korochkin was on trial, five more crimes were committed in Chelyabinsk, identical in method and place, using the same firearms.
Here is how a former CID operative described those events in a conversation with Znak.com:
“Korochkin was already tried, everyone received awards for him, but the murders began. The first, April, was not given any importance, since the man survived there, but the August ones alerted, especially when a car sank in a quarry near the park. The girl survived, but the guy, her husband, died. And then the weapon, which was in the second murder of Korochkin (July 28, 2004) and during the attempted murder in April 2005, suddenly “shot” at the base of the criminal investigation department in Bashkiria. The similarity is in the bullets, one of which was taken from the head of a man who was killed on April 28, 2004, the second from the neck of a survivor in April 2005, and the third – somewhere in Ufa in the fall of 2005. A person from the authorities went to the judge in the regional court, asked to roll everything back, they say, they took and tried clearly the wrong person, but the judge said that it was too late, but one episode does not beat, so there will be no life sentence. As a result, they gave Korochkin 20 years.

According to 112, an elderly hunter died in Chelyabinsk a year ago, the police found a pistol in his things. The weapons were checked at the bases, after which it turned out that all the attacks of the "forest maniac" were committed using this particular weapon. Now investigators are studying new facts.
