RIA Novosti, NTV, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, RT and other media published a column by former US Navy officer Byron King, written by him for The Daily Reckoning. King is sure that soon "the world will change" and the United States "is in for a catastrophe" because of the support of Ukraine. He compared the situation with the wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan and predicted that "Russia's military-industrial complex will allow it to calmly resolve the conflict in Ukraine in its favor."
“Neither the United States nor the NATO countries have a sufficient military-industrial base to achieve the volumes that Russia can provide on a permanent basis,” the “expert” believes.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes :
“In an article for The Daily Reckoning, he [King] stated the unanimous opinion of military experts that “Russia must win and Ukraine must lose.”
In fact, King is truly an expert and writes for reputable publications like Business Insider. But usually his articles are devoted not to wars and geopolitics, but to minerals: King is a geologist who graduated from Harvard University, his profile is exploration of hard rocks, metals, as well as mining and processing.
King did serve in the US Navy – as he writes on his LinkedIn, with the rank of captain, but retired in 2011. The geologist indicates that he was an adviser to the Chief of the US Navy. On another site, it says that he worked as an adviser to the US Department of Defense on national energy policy.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta sought to present King's view of the "US catastrophe" as "the unanimous opinion of military experts". However, King himself, in his column, honestly states that he does not have any “insiders” and is generally far from an expert in military affairs.
“I am a retired US Navy officer who is required by law and regulation to state that everything here is personal opinion. I do not speak for the Navy, the Department of Defense, or the US government.
Also, I'll add that at this point in my life, I'm a humble geologist who moonlights as a newsletter writer. I have no access – zero, nothing – to classified government material. Thus, everything that follows is based on my review of what is in the public domain.
In other words: I only know what I read in the papers,” King writes.
The Daily Reckoning media itself, as the same Business Insider points out , specializes in economics and global market analysis. It is published by Agora Financial, whose newsletters King now edits.
