Scottish runner Joascha Zakszewski has been disqualified after finishing third in the ultramarathon. The organizers found out that she drove four kilometers of the track by car.
Wayne Drinkwater, race director for GB Ultras, said that after the ultramarathon, he received word that one of the runners had gained "an unsportsmanlike, competitive advantage in one of the competition areas."
The movements of the athlete were tracked using GPX cartographic data. She admitted that she got into a friend's car because she became ill after a 48-hour trip to Britain from Australia the day before. Zakrzewski explained that she did not intend to deceive anyone and regretted what had happened.
Third place in the race, which took place on April 7, is now awarded to Mel Sykes.
Before that, Zakszewski won the 410 km race in Taiwan.
