The navies of Sweden and Finland are on high alert after Russian ships were spotted near the territorial waters of these countries, according to the Finnish edition Iltalehti.
There are submarine power cables in the areas where Russian ships are active, and wind farms nearby.
Eva Skog Haslum, Commander of the Swedish Navy, told the publication that the threat from Russia is seen as "absolutely" serious. At the same time, she does not confirm, but does not refute the assertion that Russian ships could directly enter the territorial waters of the countries.
The fact that the Finnish fleet, like the Swedish one, is ready to repel the alleged attack, the publication was told by its sources in the Finnish government. Allies are ready to help each other. So, Sweden will help protect the Finnish Åland Islands, and Finland – the Swedish Gotland.
In the documentary film "War of Shadows" co-produced by Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden, it was alleged that the crew of the Russian oceanographic vessel "Admiral Vladimirsky" is mapping gas pipelines, power and Internet cables in the Baltic and North Seas in case of a NATO war with Russia.
Finland was admitted to NATO in early April. Sweden's application has not yet been approved by Hungary and Türkiye. After receiving applications from both countries to join this organization in 2022, the allies provided security guarantees to Sweden and Finland.
