Yan Dvorkin, head of the Center T human rights organization, was fined 100,000 rubles under an administrative article on “LGBT propaganda.” “Found guilty, despite many violations. Minimum fine. The judge did not read out the full text,” writes the LGBT+ Case Telegram channel. Dworkin stressed that this was the first trial in his life.
The fact that a case had been initiated against Dvorkin became known at the end of April. On April 21, he was at the police department, where he was summoned by telegram. Dvorkin said that the case was initiated on the basis of a denunciation by guardianship officers. They accompanied the human rights activist's family for five years, since he is the guardian of the boy Anton. In the department, Dvorkin was not allowed to photograph the case file, and they also initially refused to let a lawyer see him.
Center T, run by Dvorkin, provides assistance to transgender and non-binary people. Recently, they have come under close scrutiny by the Russian authorities. Nina Ostanina, head of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, told Kommersant that very soon the State Duma will be amended to prohibit transgender transition and the official change of the gender marker in documents without an operation.
