Zemfira stated that she did not receive French citizenship. She wrote about this on her Instagram. Earlier, the French citizenship of the singer was reported by the Shot Telegram channel, followed by other media.
According to a Shot source, Zemfira has been living in France for a year and a half and, together with actress Renata Litvinova, opened a company in the field of performing arts "Renata" in Paris.
“I am a citizen of the Russian Federation, and I do not have and will not have any other citizenships. <…> I pay taxes in the Russian Federation, although I have not lived there for a year. I love my country, but I hate the state,” wrote the singer.
The singer demanded that the Russian Ministry of Justice prove in court that she received foreign funding, which she "never had in her life."
The Ministry of Justice recognized Zemfira as a “foreign agent” in mid-February 2023, stating that the singer “openly performed” in support of Ukraine, gave concerts in “unfriendly countries” “with calls against a special military operation.”
Zemfira made an anti-war statement during a concert in Cyprus in October 2022. She called for an end to the war and sang the song "Don't Shoot". A month after the singer was added to the register of “foreign agents”, Zemfira released a video for the song PODNHA, in which she called the Motherland “sick”, “thinned” and “numb”.
