The state prosecution requested 5.6 years in a penal colony for Zarema Musaeva, wife of former Chechen judge Saydi Yangulbaev and mother of human rights activists, in the case of "violence against a security official." This is reported by the “Team against torture”.
In early June, it was reported that Zarema Musaeva was hospitalized. For a year and a half in a pre-trial detention center, the woman's eyesight has deteriorated, she suffers from progressive back pain.
“She is transported in a wheelchair, she cannot use walks, courts are hard for her. And the most dangerous is diabetes mellitus of the second degree, which requires constant monitoring and treatment in order to curb progression. A person is simply killed in prison. And this is without any fault,” said her son Abubakar Yangulbaev.
Musaeva’s case began in January 2022, when Kadyrov’s security forces broke into the apartment of Zarema and her husband, retired federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev. He, as well as their sons, human rights activists Abubakar and Ibragim, regularly criticized Kadyrov's government. The security forces planned to kidnap Yangulbaev Sr., but they could not, since at that time he had judicial immunity. They took Musayeva away, as she was allegedly a witness in a fraud case in Grozny. During the detention, the woman, according to the investigation, scratched the face of one of the security forces. A case was opened against her for violence against a representative of the authorities, dangerous to life and health.
In February last year, the Telegram channel 1ADAT published an audio recording with a translation from Chechen, made during the abduction. The senior security officer ordered his companions to drag Musaeva by force, "even if she dies."
“My sugar dropped. Let me take insulin. I’m going to die,” Musayeva said, but the kidnappers did not listen to her.
