Chechen Press Minister Akhmed Dudayev spoke about the “handwriting of Western services” in the beating of journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
Dudayev said that Chechnya "deserved the status of the safest region in Russia" and called for finding out "the true reasons for the provocation."
There may be several of them, he says. For example, ill-wishers can "inflate the trial of Musaeva" – the wife of the former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya, Saidi Yangulbaev, and the mother of Chechen human rights activists Abubakar, Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbaev. She is being tried under the article "fraud".
Also Dudayev seems plausible motives for "discrediting the Russian Federation before the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius" and damaging the image of Chechnya. He promised that "the authorities will do their best" to find the customers and perpetrators of this crime.
In turn, State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina proposed introducing criminal liability for attacks specifically on journalists. However, such a law already exists. This is article 144 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to it, obstruction of journalistic activities is punishable by imprisonment for up to six years.
On July 4, in Chechnya, masked men attacked Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who defends Zarema Musayeva. The attackers stopped the car in which the journalist and the lawyer were traveling from the airport to Grozny, severely beat them and destroyed their equipment and documents.
