In Chechnya, masked men attacked Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who defends Zarema Musayeva. According to the Telegram channel of Novaya Gazeta, the attackers stopped the car in which the journalist and the lawyer were traveling from the airport to Grozny, severely beat them and destroyed their equipment and documents.
The Telegram channel of the Memorial Center reports that Milashina and Nemov were kicked, including in the face, they put a gun to their heads, and they threatened to kill them. At the same time, they were told: “You were warned. Get out of here and don't write anything."
Both victims are now in the hospital. Nemov speaks and moves with difficulty, his leg is injured , presumably, we are talking about a stab wound. Milashina has broken fingers and often loses consciousness. The attackers shaved the woman's head and doused it with brilliant green. Colleagues of the journalist said that she was in serious condition and could not be transported without special vehicles.
Milashina and Nemov flew to Grozny for the verdict on Zarema Musayeva, which is due on July 4. The wife of a former judge, Saydi Yangulbaeva, and the mother of several Chechen activists, are accused of "attacking" the security forces.
Update: A policeman came to the hospital to see the victims, but they refused to testify because they see no point in it, according to the Team Against Torture.
