The UN Commission of Inquiry has collected evidence of war crimes committed by the Russian military in Ukraine "on a huge scale." This was stated by the chairman of the commission, Eric Möse, speaking at the Human Rights Council.
According to him, we are talking about rape, torture of minors and killings of civilians.
The UN Commission of Inquiry was created by the Human Rights Council specifically to investigate Russia's crimes in Ukraine.
As part of the investigation, the commission visited 27 settlements, spoke with 150 victims and eyewitnesses, and visited places of detention in the territories liberated from occupation, Möse said.
The commission's first visit to Ukraine took place in June. Members of the investigation team said at the time that they were shocked by what they saw there, but they need time to study the evidence and decide who is responsible for these crimes.
After the June trip, Möse told DW that in three months in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, as well as in settlements near Kiev, they managed to collect more evidence than in their time in Rwanda. “There are numerous photos, videos that were filmed not only by journalists or investigators, but even by the victims themselves and witnesses of terrible events. This evidence makes the testimony of eyewitnesses even more convincing, ”he said.
