The Russian Armed Forces received 29 combat and combat training aircraft in 2022, according to a report on the supply of new aircraft published by the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST). Russia has lost 68 aircraft since the start of its invasion of Ukraine, according to the Oryx analytical project.
According to the CAST report, four Su-30SM2 fighters, ten Su-34M front-line bombers, seven Su-35S fighters, six fifth-generation Su-57 fighters and two combat trainers Yak-130 appear among the combat aircraft delivered to the Armed Forces. In addition, the Armed Forces received five military transport Il-76MD-90A.
Assessing losses during the war in Ukraine, CAST reports that at least 30 new types of combat aircraft (Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35) were lost.
According to Oryx, Russia lost a total of 68 combat and military transport aircraft (64 destroyed, 4 damaged). Among them are 11 Su-30SMs, 17 Su-34s and three more Russian-made Su-30s. Thus, for 10 delivered Su-34M front-line bombers, 18 were lost (17 Su-34s and one Su-34M).
According to a table published by CAST, since 2008 the Russian Armed Forces have received 97 Su-30SMs. In total, as follows from this table, from 2008 to 2022, 619 combat and combat training aircraft entered service with the Russian army.
According to Oryx, Russia has lost dozens of Soviet-made aircraft. In particular, these are 25 Su-25 attack aircraft and eight Su-24 M/MR front-line bombers.
