A majority of UN member states supported Russia’s exclusion from the Human Rights Council. Ninety-three countries voted in favor and 24 voted against. Fifty-eight countries abstained.
The USA and the UK demanded that Russia be expelled from the Human Rights Council after the events in Bucha became known. The Russian authorities denied any involvement in the killing of people in Bucha.
Suspension of the Human Rights Council membership is rare. The last time it happened was in March 2011.
