Two Russians were detained on the island of St. Lawrence (Alaska), where they sailed on a boat, fleeing from mobilization in Russia. This is written by the local edition of The Anchorage Daily News.

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy said: “Two people were detained in the city of Gambell. As far as I understand, they are now in the city of Anchorage. This incident came as a surprise to us, we do not expect a constant flow of people.”

Gambell is located about 60 kilometers from the Russian mainland.

Several people familiar with the situation declined to comment on the incident to the press, citing fears for the safety of Russians and their relatives, as citizens who evade mandatory military mobilization face punishment.

Alaska's News Source cites comments from Gambell residents that the Russians who sailed on the boat said they were fleeing from the Russian army and that they sailed from the city of Egvekinot in northeastern Russia, and their journey by sea was about 300 miles (480 km). ).

At the end of September, it was reported that in Estonia, border guards detained a Russian citizen who, fleeing from mobilization, illegally crossed the border of the two countries on a sapboard.
