The Russian military is preparing a terrorist attack at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an evening address.

“According to our information, the units and the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station were mined by Russian terrorists. Now everyone in the world must act quickly and powerfully to prevent another Russian terrorist attack. Undermining the dam will mean a large-scale catastrophe. With this act of terrorism, they can even destroy the possibility of supplying water from the Dnieper to the Crimea. The North Crimean Canal will simply disappear with the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

According to the president, if Russia is seriously considering such a scenario, then it realizes that it will not be able to keep not only Kherson, but the entire south of Ukraine, including Crimea. He called on the world community to take a preventive action.

Zelensky also spoke about Russia's similar plans via video link at a meeting of the European Council in Brussels on October 20. According to him, the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP holds about 18 million cubic meters of water. If it is blown up, more than 80 settlements, including Kherson, will be in the zone of rapid flooding.

Earlier, “acting governor of the Kherson region” ( as propagandists call him ) Volodymyr Saldosaid that there is “an immediate danger of flooding of the territories in connection with the planned destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.” The Insider spoke to military experts, and they all agreed that blowing up the dam makes no military sense for Ukraine. Russia, on the other hand, could theoretically take this "crazy" step in an attempt to keep Kherson. Most likely, the occupying authorities deliberately whip up panic in order to force the local population to leave, experts assured.
