At least 100 people were killed and 300 injured when two car bombs exploded outside the Somali Ministry of Education in the capital Mogadishu. This is reported by Reuters , citing a statement by President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud.

According to local publication Shabelle Media Network, police chief Hodan and journalist Mohamed Isse Kona were among the dead.

The death toll could rise, with many of those injured in serious condition.

Explosions thundered the night before, October 29th. The first explosion occurred outside the building of the Ministry of Education near a busy intersection. The second thundered when ambulances arrived and people gathered to help the victims. The blast knocked out windows nearby.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The country's president blamed the bombings on the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, which is linked to al-Qaeda.

In October 2017, a bomb was already detonated in the same place. More than 500 people died in that explosion.
