The searches of the former host of the Moment of Truth program Andrei Karaulov and the statement against him in the UK are connected with the fact that he “went far beyond the scope of professional ethics” and published materials that caused “reputational damage” to the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov. This was stated by RBC in the state corporation.
Rostec decided to apply to the Investigative Committee for a legal assessment of the journalist's activities.
“Karaulov in his activities went far beyond professional ethics, being, in fact, engaged in pseudo-journalism. In his channel, he published rumors and conjectures, divorced from reality, without bothering to verify the information necessary. Real journalism involves fact-checking using at least two sources, as well as formally contacting the company for comment and clarification.”
The information campaign launched on Karaulov's resources had "signs of slander," added a representative of the corporation.
On November 3, Karaulov reported that armed security forces broke into his house with a search. This is connected with a criminal libel case initiated at the request of Chemezov. He called what is happening "the play" Ksenia Sobchak ", act two." He also posted a video of 13 people, saying that only a small part of those who conducted the search were on it.
According to him , witnesses during the search were his mother-in-law, administrator and colleague, who were also interrogated.
At the end of October, the court arrested the commercial director of Ksenia Sobchak, Kirill Sukhanov, and the former editor-in-chief of Tatler, Arian Romanovsky, in a case of extortion. The “victim” was the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov. According to investigators, the defendants extorted 11 million rubles from him in order not to post negative posts about him on the “Extinguish the Light” Telegram channel (the channel has not been updated since October 24). At the trial, it turned out that Chemezov personally wrote the statement. After Sukhanov was detained, Sobchak left Russia. On October 26, her country house was searched.
