The Russian military plundered an art museum in Kherson. This is reported by his management.
From October 31 to November 3, about 40 people, subordinate to the occupying administration of Kherson, took out works of art and office equipment from the museum. As indicated in the message of the museum, the paintings were not packed in any way before transportation, but simply wrapped in rags.
So, on November 1, three trucks and one school bus full of stolen goods were taken out of the museum. On November 2, two more trucks, and on November 3, a bus into which everything else was loaded. According to the management of the museum, the loot was taken to the Crimea. At the same time, it is emphasized that it is not necessarily the final point of the route.
The removal of the exhibits was led by the Russian-appointed director of the museum, Natalia Desyatova, the museum said. Desyatova was assisted by her subordinates, both directly in the museum itself and in the Crimea. According to Alina Dotsenko, director of the museum, former employees of the museum Natalya Koltsova and Inna Burenko received the exhibits on the annexed peninsula.
In July, the Mariupol City Council announced that the Russian military had removed all valuable exhibits from the museums of Mariupol they had occupied. Thus, the local history and art museums were looted. From there they took out the original paintings of Arkhip Kuindzhi and Ivan Aivazovsky, unique icons and historical exhibits. The institutions themselves were destroyed.
