In St. Petersburg yesterday opened a monument to the cat Kuza, who was brutally killed by a couple from Severodvinsk (Arkhangelsk region) last year.

According to the sculptor, the monument erected at the pet cemetery is dedicated not only to Kuza, but also to all animals that have suffered from human hands.

On February 14 of this year, Anna-Victoria Gromovich and Artyom Lavrentiev were found guilty under Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“cruel treatment of animals”) and sentenced to real terms.

Gromovich, who tortured the animal for revenge on her mother-in-law, received 3 years and 2 months in a colony-settlement, Lavrentyev, who filmed bullying, received 3 years and 6 months (the man was also accused of stealing money from his mother). Subsequently, the regional court approved the verdict, and Gromovich was deprived of parental rights.

At the verdict, the woman stated that she did not feel sorry for either Kuzya or her mother-in-law, out of revenge for whom she tortured her cat. According to Gromovich, "the mother-in-law loved the cat more than her granddaughter." During the trial, the accused continued to mock her mother-in-law by sending her videos of Kuzi's torment on the Internet. Because of this, Gromovich was placed in a pre-trial detention center.

The story of the cat Kuzi united dozens of activists and animal rights activists across the country who demanded that the couple be sentenced to the maximum term.

About how the monument to Kuza was opened today - in the video “Honeycombs”.
