Based on open sources from the BBC, Mediazona and a team of volunteers, the names of more than 8,700 Russian soldiers who died in the war in Ukraine have been identified. As of November 11, it was possible to confirm information about more than 8712 dead soldiers and officers.
As noted in the material, the calculation is carried out only on confirmed death reports, so the data collected does not reflect the real level of losses. This list may contain 40-60% fewer names of the dead than it actually is, journalists say.
For the first time since the beginning of the war, the Krasnodar Territory came out on top in terms of the number of confirmed losses (365 dead). Dagestan dropped to second place (338 dead), followed by Buryatia (332 people).
Only according to confirmed data, more than 2,400 dead are elite specialists: soldiers and officers of special forces units, marines and military pilots. It took years of training and millions of dollars to prepare them.
Over the past week, there have been many casualties among the mobilized, thrown to the front. At the moment, it is reliably known about the death of 198 mobilized Russians. Of these, it was possible to establish the names of 163 people who died in the combat zone on the territory of Ukraine. Another 35 died in Russia – most often due to heart problems, accidents or alcohol abuse, the BBC notes.
By November 11, the names of 47 prisoners who died in the war are known. According to the “Rus Sitting” Foundation, according to the latest data, 20,000 prisoners were recruited to the front.
According to the BBC, Russia's total deadweight losses could be at least 78,300. This figure was obtained based on observations by the US Center for Naval Analysis, according to which, for every Russian soldier who died during the war in Ukraine, about 3.5 were wounded.
In mid-October, "Important stories" wrote that Russia's irretrievable losses in the war with Ukraine could be more than 90 thousand people. These are data from two sources of the publication: one of them is a former officer of the Russian special services, and the second is an active officer of the FSB.
Irretrievable losses are the number of those killed, missing, dying from wounds in hospitals, as well as the wounded who can no longer return to military service.
