The verdict in the high-profile case of HIV infection at the Podolsk blood transfusion station has been announced. The victim, a 75-year-old woman, died from the effects of the infection. Guilty - the head physician of the station - was punished for all this with a fine of 60 thousand rubles.

Five years ago, a 78-year-old patient with a rare blood type was admitted for an emergency transfusion. The required Rh factor was found in a regular donor. The blood was transfused, the woman went on the mend, but died unexpectedly. It turned out that the donor was treated for drug addiction, concealed HIV, and the doctors did not check the blood - the administration of Podolsk did not allocate money for PCR tests. We wrote about it here.

As a result, 47-year-old head physician Larisa Smaznova was prosecuted under the article "Infecting another person with HIV infection due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties." Smaznova denied guilt, and the case was transferred from the prosecutor's office to the court and back until 2022. This year, the article was changed to "Negligence", and Themis, taking the side of the deceased patient, issued a fine of 60 thousand rubles.
