The Meshchansky Court of Moscow sentenced the co-owner of the Summa company, the former billionaire Ziyavudin Magomedov, to 19 years in prison in the case of embezzlement of 11 billion rubles. It is reported by TASS. He was found guilty of organizing a criminal community with the aim of embezzling budget funds during the construction of large facilities.
His brother, ex-senator Magomed Magomedov, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Both will serve time in a strict regime colony. In addition, the court imposed a fine of 2.5 million rubles on each of them. Earlier on December 1, it was reported that the Magomedovs and four other defendants in the case were also required to pay 3.6 billion rubles in claims.
The Magomedovs were accused of nine episodes of embezzlement, in particular: when creating an artificial land plot near Krestovsky Island in St. Petersburg, preparing a land plot for the construction of the Baltika stadium in Kaliningrad for the 2018 World Cup, supplying electrical equipment to the Vasileostrovskaya substation in St. Petersburg and Neryungrinskaya GRES, during the reconstruction of the Kaliningrad airport Khrabrovo and others Magomedovs denied the charges.
In total, about 20 people are involved in investigations related to the Magomedov brothers, some of whom are wanted and arrested in Russia in absentia.
In May 2022, the Khamovnichesky Court, at the suit of the Prosecutor General’s Office, seized from the Magomedovs and turned into state revenue a record amount for Russia – $ 750 million. The Magomedovs received this money from the sale of Transneft 50.1% of the shares of Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port JSC. According to the investigation, the port was purchased with income received during the period when Magomed Magomedov was a member of the Federation Council from the Smolensk region.
